Mindsets Mistached

Does this sound familar to you?

When the business problems aren’t clear to the stakeholders, it's like a student who doesn't know what to learn about:

"Teach me something," the student said.

"Sure, what do you want to learn specifically to enrich your life?" The teacher said.

The student shrugged and then shared that the teacher doesn't offer value.

Wait, there is another scenario, which is just as often or maybe more often than it should be – when tech teams push new tools on stakeholders just for the sake of new tools.

"I need to learn how to do addition and multiplication faster," the student said.

"Sure, but what if I can teach you Calculus?" The teacher said.

The student shrugged, "I don't even know how to do Algebra."

"My student is not teachable," The teacher lamented.

Stick to the problems at hand, please.

Help the stakeholders scope out what they if they can’t explain it.

Implement a therapist mindset using open-ended questions.
