Why You Need a Data Concierge

Deliver your data projects with pleasure

A data project fails often because of poor communications between stakeholders and data teams. The success of a data project requires both domain experts and skilled engineers to work together. It’s painful to watch an engineer, who is brilliant and works so hard, fails at efficiently presenting data and building trust with stakeholders. We, the technical people, often have limited experience in how to present data and build relationships with stakeholders. And stakeholders have little understanding of tech terms and concepts.

What can you do? Every data project needs a data concierge - someone who is intimately familiar with tech and business to serve as a point of contact between tech teams and stakeholders. It’s not fair to have engineers manage stakeholder relationships on top of the heavy tech load they have. A data concierge can ease their burden. This dedicated role also helps stakeholders understand what needs to happen and what data teams need from them to deliver.

How’s a data concierge different from a project/product manager? A data concierge is technically excellent and can step in to help a data team with development when needed. Meanwhile, he/she can speak the business lingo or is a domain expert.

Where can you find a data concierge? It starts with YOU. I aim to bridge that gap by sharing experiences I have for both data professionals and stakeholders to take actions now. This newsletter is meant for both parties. Together, we can bridge the communication gap through collaboration. Anyone can become a data concierge. Happy stakeholders do exist. I’d like you to deliver your data projects with pleasure.
